Bozar’s Tribute to Cyprus meets with great success in Brussels
Cultural activities under the “Focus on Cyprus: Immersion in Contemporary Cypriot Art” programme are ongoing at the Bozar Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels. This tribute to Cyprus’ contemporary culture has been organised by the 2026 Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU together with Bozar in the context of the Cultural Programme of the Cyprus Presidency.
On Saturday, 11 April 2026, the award-winning and internationally acclaimed band Monsieur Doumani held a concert at Bozar. The trio, comprising the musicians Antonis Antoniou, Dimitris Giasemidis and Andis Skordis, delighted the public with their fourth album entitled “Pissourin”.
On Monday, 13 April 2026, the tribute to Cyprus continued, with the performance of choreographic works by Cypriot choreographers Alexandra Waierstall and Elena Antoniou, in two very special spaces within Bozar. In her performance entitled “Seconds in Clouds”, Alexandra Waierstall created a sophisticated and structured kinesiological dialogue with the work “Arena Seating” by the visual artist Rita McBride. Through her dynamic solo “LANDSCAPE”, Elena Antoniou presented the body as a “collective landscape”. Antoniou’s idiosyncratic work has also been presented in major festivals abroad.
In addition, the exhibition “Lost Spaces”, which offers an immersive virtual reality experience in Lefkosia’s buffer zone, is still on at Bozar. The exhibition offers a unique perspective on three emblematic spaces within the buffer zone, seen through the memories of the people who used to live there. The artist Andreas Karayan, who recently passed away, is among the witnesses who share their personal experiences.
