The Standing Committee on Operational Cooperation on Internal Security (COSI) has been set up within the Council in order to ensure that operational cooperation on internal security is promoted and strengthened within the Union (Art. 71 TFEU).
COSI is composed of senior officials from the Ministry responsible for the internal security of each member state, as well as representatives of the Commission and the Justice and Home Affairs Agencies.
With the aim of strengthening the EU's internal security against emerging threats, this informal COSI meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss the challenges related to cryptocurrencies and digital transactions that law enforcement authorities face during financial investigations.
Another topic that will be discussed is the smuggling of cultural goods, which according to Interpol and the UNODC, is the third most profitable form of organised crime.
Additionally, there will be an exchange of views about the worrying threat of nihilistic extremist violence which mainly affects children and young adults.
