An informal meeting of the EU’s Competitiveness ministers to discuss matters related, inter alia, to the competitiveness of Europe’s industry and lifting barriers to the single market.

Agenda highlights

Bringing together EU ministers, ministers of European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries and the European Commission, the meeting will provide a forum for an exchange of views on promoting economic resilience, strategic autonomy and sustainable and inclusive growth, while safeguarding consumers and reinforcing the Single Market.

On 2 February, delegates will take part in a guided tour of Lefkosia, followed by a gala dinner.

On 3 February, ministers will convene for the informal meeting. The first plenary session will focus on strengthening the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base, addressing persistent structural challenges, such as insufficient scale, and underlining the need for closer integration of defence and industrial policies within a coherent strategic framework.

The second session will review the Competitiveness Compass one year after its launch, taking stock of progress, identifying key challenges and exploring ways to accelerate implementation and enhance effectiveness.

The meeting will conclude with a working lunch on the Consumer Agenda 2030 “Towards 2030: A Stronger, Fairer, and Safer Single Market for European Consumers”, followed by a press conference held by the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Mr Michael Damianos, the Director-General of the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, Ms Kerstin Jorna, and the Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, Mr Michael McGrath.
