Agenda highlights

On 30 and 31 March 2026, the meeting of Directors-General for Vocational Education and Training (VET) will take place in Brussels, in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The DGVT meeting will bring together Directors-General responsible for VET from the EU member states, representatives of the European Commission and invited speakers, for high-level discussions on key VET priorities in Europe.

The programme will commence with welcome addresses by the Cyprus Presidency and the European Commission, followed by a Cedefop animation about Cyprus’ VET system and a presentation by Dr Elias Margadjis, Director of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), entitled "Challenges and Opportunities of the Cypriot VET System".

Subsequently, through a presentation on this subject by the European Commission and the ensuing discussion, the foundations will be laid for the development of the future VET Strategy.

A central theme is the attractiveness of VET. Recent Eurobarometer results and a Cedefop study will be presented by the European Commission and Cedefop respectively. These presentations will lead into group discussions on different aspects of VET attractiveness.

The first day will conclude with a panel discussion on the role of artificial intelligence in VET.

The second day will open with a presentation of the social partners’ study "Improving Skills Matching in Europe". Participants will then take part in parallel workshops, covering key areas such as VET quality, excellence and innovation, internationalisation, and lifelong VET.

The meeting will conclude with updates by Cedefop and the European Training Foundation (ETF), a brief presentation by the incoming Irish Presidency, and closing remarks by the European Commission and the Cyprus Presidency.
