The Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, together with the European Commission and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), will host the first EU-GCC Energy Ministerial on 12 May 2026 in Lefkosia, at the Filoxenia Conference Centre.

The Ministerial will bring together Energy ministers from EU and GCC member states and will be held back-to-back with the Informal Energy Council, which convenes on 13 May 2026. It marks an important milestone in strengthening the EU-GCC government-to-government energy dialogue and aims to convey a strong message of enhanced cooperation, particularly in light of recent regional developments.

Discussions will focus on energy security in a changing energy landscape, as well as on clean technology opportunities in the context of economic diversification. The meeting also seeks to deepen cooperation on energy policy, connectivity and renewable energy, while expanding opportunities for trade and investment.

The Ministerial will take place from 16:30 to 19:00 and will conclude with a joint press conference (starts at 19:15) by the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Michael Damianos, the Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Mrs Dubravka Šuica, the Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Mr Dan Jørgensen, and the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Mr Jasem Al Budaiwi.
