The purpose of the informal Telecommunication Council is to bring together the EU Digital ministers and the European Commission with the aim of discussing, exchanging views, and coordinating on current and emerging issues in digital and cyber sectors, with a view to advancing Europe’s digital agenda.
The official deliberations of the informal Telecommunication Council will begin with a discussion on accelerating the widespread adoption of trustworthy AI across the Union. During the second session, discussions will focus on strengthening the protection of minors online, exploring key policies, safeguards, and measures to ensure their safety and well-being in the digital ecosystem. The programme will conclude with a working lunch on the protection of Europe’s critical infrastructures and the reinforcement of collective resilience in the face of evolving challenges.

Agenda highlights
Bringing together EU Ministers, Ministers of European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries and the European Commission, the meeting will provide a forum for a constructive exchange of views on current and emerging issues shaping Europe’s digital and security agenda, including discussions on accelerating the widespread adoption of trustworthy AI, reinforcing protection of minors in the digital environment and enhancing Europe’s critical infrastructure resilience.
On 29 April, delegates will participate in a welcome networking reception, followed by a field visit featuring interactive showcasing of innovative technologies developed by the local ecosystem. The programme will also include a guided walking tour of the historic old town of Lefkosia, concluding with a gala dinner at Casteliotissa Ηall.
On 30 April, ministers will convene for the informal meeting. The first session will focus focusing on accelerating the widespread adoption of trustworthy AI across the EU.
The second session will focus on strengthening the protection of minors online, providing an opportunity for in-depth policy discussion, exploring opportunities to further advance a coherent and effective approach in this area.
The meeting will conclude with a working lunch on protecting Europe’s critical infrastructures and enhancing collective resilience in response to evolving challenges, followed by a press conference held by Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr Nicodemos Damianou, and Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, Ms Henna Virkkunen.
